The Anna-Jonesboro senior, who stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 215 pounds, put up some crazy numbers and helped his team advance farther than any other from Southern Illinois.

Wright is The Southern Illinoisan's Prep Football Player of the Year for 2011.

"It was real exciting because I never really ran a pass-first offense and hadn't played quarterback full time in a few years," Wright said. "It was really fun because a lot of people didn't see us being so successful, and we proved a lot of people wrong."

By the end of Anna-Jonesboro's quarterfinal run in the playoffs, Wright had accumulated 3,166 yards of offense and a stunning 39 touchdowns. The senior threw for 2,241 yards and 20 touchdowns and rushed for 925 yards and 19 scores.

He couldn't have done it without some great skill players and a solid offensive line. Michael Dillman led the line, while Jaden Ayers, Brent Taylor and Dalton Baker hauled in a bunch of Wright's passes.

"Our line did a great job for us," Wright said. "Our receivers got open, made plays and got a lot of yards after the catch. Those guys made me look really good."

Wright isn't your typical star athlete. He doesn't really care about the attention or personal statistics; he just wants to win.

"He's very quiet and very unassuming," said Anna-Jonesboro coach Brett Detering. "He really is a fierce competitor and hates to lose even though he doesn't say a lot. It bothered him when he felt like he missed a throw that he should've completed."

The Wildcats finished up their 2011 season with a record of 9-3. The team didn't have much depth but made things happen anyway.

"I knew we were good when we went to Du Quoin in Week 4 and won," Wright said. "I had never beaten them in varsity football and for us to give them their first loss on their new field was great."

It didn't really matter how Wright was used in the Anna-Jonesboro offense. He could run through the line of scrimmage for a ton of yards or throw for more than 300 through the air.

He was the horse of the 2011 Wildcats and he never let them down.

"Brady was just a tough matchup for anybody because he could hurt you in so many ways," Detering said. "He is a great kid to coach, very smart and we'd let him change plays at the line of scrimmage from time to time. It is so hard for a defense to prepare for a quarterback like him."

Wright pretty much did it all. He got that extra yard on the ground and found the open receiver through the air.

He was a winner.
