Lynch chooses baseball

Jonathan Lynch has played every sport he could possibly play since he was old enough to remember.   He was a three sport star at Notre Dame high school in Cape Girardeau.  He was All District in soccer, basketball and baseball but he'll finally be able to concentrate on just one, baseball, as he signed to play for the Lyon Scots and coach Tony Roepke.

"It will be strange only playing one sport but I am excited to being playing baseball as it has always been my favorite," Lynch said.

He went to Lyon College to a camp and impressed the coaching staff.  "He is a compeititor, that was easy to spot," said 4th year Lyon head coach Tony Roepke.   "He is very athletic and very quick and we'll use him in the outfield and maybe a little on the bump."

Lynch played for the Missouri Bulls for the past four summers and credits the coaching staff there for making him a more versatile player.  "During the summer the players you play with are amazing so the coaches wanted me to play the outfield," Lynch said.  "I usually played first base but I felt pretty confident I could learn a new position.  The coaches always told me you never know where they will need you in college so the more positions you can play the better."

"You will not find a better kid than Jon Lynch," said his former skipper at Notre Dame Jeff Graviett.  "I have coached hundreds of kids and if they all had his attitude and will to win I wouldn't lose too many games."

The Scots have already begun their season and are off to a 4-2 start.  Lynch is yet to see the field but he knows he just needs to work hard like he always has and he'll eventually get his chance.

"It's tough because I'm used to playing but I know I'm new here and a freshman and I will have to bide my time," said Lynch.   If I know Lynch, it won't take him very long before someone there watches how hard he works and he'll get his chance.  Once he does, I don't think they'll be able to drag him off the field.
